Lisa teaches her students to sing, act, perform and audition in a fun, upbeat, and supportive environment. A former teacher, music director, director and choreographer with 'Upstage Theater' in Los Angeles, ‘Kids On Stage’ in Santa Monica, ‘The Adderley School’ in Pacific Palisades, ‘The Lake Forest Children’s Theatre’ in Lake Forest, IL, and ‘Kidstage Productions, Inc.’ in Northbrook, IL, Lisa has 30+ years of experience working with singers, actors, dancers and performers of all ages.

 

SPECIALITIES: All styles, from Broadway, "Legit," Pop, Rock and Blues, to Jazz, Folk, and Jewish Music, to students' own Original Compositions!  An acting teacher and performance coach as well as a voice teacher, Lisa doesn’t just teach her students vocal technique and how to sing, she teaches them how to get ‘inside’ their songs and connect to the character and lyric to tell the story of the song and perform it with honesty, connection, meaning, and power.

Singer, actress, dancer, songwriter, voice over actress and recording artist Lisa Fishman has performed throughout the U.S. and Europe, starring in Off-Broadway and Regional Musical Theater, recording and performing her original pop music and one-woman shows, singing at Cabaret venues, singing and recording with several of the Country's top 'Klezmer' bands (Eastern European Jewish music), performing in her own, original Jewish musical act, starring in Yiddish Theater productions, performing for children on television and record, acting in TV and film, working as a voice over artist, and even singing at Disneyland!  Lisa is thrilled to be able to share the techniques that she brings to the stage and the studio with singers and students of all ages.

 

With an extremely eclectic background from musical theater to pop music to jazz to Jewish music to her own original music, Lisa works with a wide range of students from those looking to go on into a career in performing, to those just looking to have fun and work on singing and music while building their confidence and acquiring new skills. At the core of Lisa’s work is a strong and ‘legit’ vocal technique - as well as acting and dance training - that her students can apply to all forms of music and performing. An acting teacher and performance coach as well as a voice teacher, Lisa doesn’t just teach her students vocal technique and how to sing, she teaches them how to get ‘inside’ their songs and connect to the character and lyric to tell the story of the song and perform it with honesty, connection, meaning, and power.

 

Lisa has a B.A. from the American University in Washington, D.C. in Musical Theater Studies, and additionally spent a year in the music program at New York University as a Vocal Performance major. Lisa’s vocal training and performance coaching includes studies with: Broadway star, Susan Hight Denny, Soprano Elizabeth Vrenios, Mezzo Soprano Adriana Hardy, Baritone Jerome Barry, Soprano Lisa Saunderson, Performance coach and director, Sara Louise Lazarus, Vocal coach Carole Weiss, and Vocal coach Faye Kaiser. Her acting training includes work with Director/Acting Professor/Dept. of Perf. Arts Chair of A.U., Dr. Gail Humphries Mardirosian, Acting Professor, Rosalie Walsh, Theater Professor and playwright, Caleen Sinette Jennings, Actress, teacher, and director, Barbara June Patterson, and Acting teacher and director, Eileen Boevers. Lisa has taught and directed with many of the top children’s theater companies throughout the country, including 'Upstage Theater' in Los Angeles, ‘Kids On Stage’ in Santa Monica, CA, ‘The Adderley School’ in Pacific Palisades, CA, ‘The Lake Forest Children’s Theatre’ in Lake Forest, IL, and ‘Kidstage Productions, Inc.’ in Northbrook, IL. Lisa has also worked as a freelance musical theater director and musical director at grade schools, junior highs and summer camps, including work at Camp Hess Kramer in Malibu, CA, Edgewood Jr. High in Highland Park, IL, Saints Faith, Hope, & Charity in Winnetka, IL, Solomon Schechter school in Skokie, IL, Anshe Emet Day School in Chicago, IL, and community centers throughout IL, CA, and NY. Lisa has also worked at the nationally acclaimed Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago, IL as a singing teacher and ‘Mommy & Me’ class instructor. Additionally, Lisa has led workshops, sing-a-longs, and educational programs for children and adults throughout schools and community centers in Illinois, New York, and California.
