“GOD BLESS AMERICA” - IN YIDDISH
(aka: “GOT BENTSH AMERIKE”)
The cast of "Fiddler on the Roof" in Yiddish with director, Joel Grey (center) - from the video "Got Bentsh America" ("God Bless America" in Yiddish)
“I'm thrilled to share a project that I conceived of and co-produced with my Fiddler On The Roof in Yiddish cast mate, Ben Liebert:
The cast of Fiddler in Yiddish, along with our director, Academy and Tony Award-winning actor, Joel Grey, recorded a performance of "GOD BLESS AMERICA” sung in Yiddish - a song written by Jewish immigrant, Irving Berlin, a man whose native languages were Yiddish and Russian.
Our Yiddish rendition, “GOT BENTSH AMERIKE,” was written by producer, musicologist, performer and Yiddish Radio Project co-creator, Henry Sapoznik.
We released this video the day before the 59th Presidential Inaugural Ceremony for Joseph R. Biden Jr. in 2021.
The performance was intended as a prayer for our country - along with a celebration of its beauty and ideals.
I hope it uplifts and inspires you.
G-d Bless America, and our entire planet and beyond!”
- Lisa
